Durrës is a beautiful seaside city on the west coast of Albania, along the Adriatic Sea. There are many things to do in Durrës, especially in the summer. On the hottest days, many people from the capital come down for a visit to smell the sea and take a walk along the beach.
Durrës is among the oldest settlements in Albania, having been inhabited since the 7th century BC. If you look around, you can find numerous significant ancient remains, but we’ll get into those later. Durrës is also a place to have fun, with countless bars and restaurants along the seashore, making it the perfect evening destination.
The city of Durrës lies west of Tirana, the capital of Albania. It was founded in the 7th century as Epidamnus by the Greeks and later passed to the Romans, who called it Dyrrhachium. The city has been under the reign of many other empires throughout the years, such as the Venetians and Byzantines.
